Many Muslims in India will observe an additional day of fasting on April 10 as the crescent Moon wasnt sighted, delaying Eid al-Fitr to April 11 in much of the country. However, in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on April 10 after the Shawwal Moon was sighted there. Kerala and West Asia will also celebrate Eid on April 10. The tradition of moon sighting is deeply ingrained in Islamic culture, marking the conclusion of Ramadan and the start of the Shawwal month.

Eid is being observed on April 10 in Pakistan, Australia, the Philippines, and Malaysia, following moon sightings earlier in the day.

Eid al-Fitr 2024: Most Indian Muslims will be observing another day of fasting on Wednesday (Apr 10) as the crescent Moon was not sighted. Prominent mosques in Delhi, including Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka earlier confirmed that the Moon was not sighted. It means that Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated in large parts of the country on Thursday (Apr 11).

Look out for the "Shawwal Moon" on April 9 or 10 after the total solar eclipse. A crescent moon will be visible with Jupiter and a rare comet.
