vision. in that sense i don t know if he would be happy hearing this but he clearly is a bigger, more comprehensive figure than he was a year ago. ainsley: real quickly, what was the best line last night? i think americans are dreamers, too. it was the best line. brian: a message. some democrats said that was a slap to the dreamers in the audience. that s really number one. some democrats are so idiotically out of touch with reality that the idea of describing all of us collectively as dreamers is offensive to them because then they would have to be pro-american. brian: lastly, real quick, the president has got an opportunity now. he is going to be commenting on what s going on with the fbi and the memo. are you recommending that he stay away from that conversation? he doesn t have to do anything. all he has to do is have sara go out to the press corps and say here s the memo. steve: any questions? brian: he doesn t have to. well, that s why i m hoping for one week that he will
no, he hasn t. he doesn t have to. he can put another bill and we can deal with it in conference. that s how we usually work. so no, he doesn t have to put the senate bill. but i do think if the president gets behind it, then it s something they ll want to put on the house floor. what are the next steps for the bipartisan leaders? to make sure we have a bill if we did go to regular order where well, somewhat regular order, we re not going through a committee. but if we bring something to the floor, everybody offers amendments and you deal with the process of the senate rules, it can be a long, long, long process. so we re still going to need some consent and some kind of agreement to move ahead. and to do that, you ve got to have support, and that s what we re hoping to do is broaden the support we have with the bipartisan bill.
other than open up the government, hopefully at 2:30 when we have the final vote today. can a deal be done without the president s leadership? ultimately the president is going to need to get onboard in order for the house to vote on it. the house still very much relies on the president. reporter: have you talked to speaker ryan? that s his message as well. it will be difficult to pass anything without the president s support. we acknowledge that. what we re saying is we can t wait for the president to indicate his support before starting the process here. if we could pass a bill, obviously if it passes the senate, it s a bipartisan bill by definition. it ll have at least 60 votes, i think closer to 70. and if that gets to the white house, i m confident the president will say, i like this. and has the speaker reporter: has the speaker told you he will put the immigration bill on the floor? no, he hasn t. he doesn t have to.
president will ultimately have to sit down with robert muleell? he doesn t have to. he could be compelled to appear before a grand jury if mueller issued a grand jury subpoena. he doesn t have to voluntarily comply. i will say this, though. he is correct that the white house has been very cooperative with mueller. mcgahn, white house counsel has been remarkably open in describing the procedures followed at the white house and that sort of thing. they have not shut down the white house. and i think the reason you hear the president repeat no collusion, no collusion , it s like it s on a loop, he says it every time he appears publicly, is he wants to stop the investigation at that point, no collusion with the russians. he s fearful if mueller continues as he did with manafort and starts looking into the operation of the trump business empire or he sees
wants to make sure people can get that access. i think he can hold his own in these rural pockets that he s not going to get to 50 plus 1, but he doesn t have to. if these early turnout projections are there, at 30% for african-american turnout, that s certainly promising. very early, and i hope again, people in line, you need to stay in line because every vote counts. we have all been burned by exit polls before. we ll see what actually happens. the fact that the democratic national committee chairman is here thinking he has a chance. that s amazing. donald trump won alabama by 28 points. and here we are. we have a tall mountain to climb, but the fact we re here is a tribute. thanks. coming up, the moore campaign strategy. how president trump figures in. we ll talk with his top political centralgist next. stay with us.
