"Shift shock" or "new job regret" can occur when the reality of a job does not meet ones expectations. It can happen at any stage of a career. Factors that contribute to shift shock include moving into a new industry or role, working in fast-paced and chaotic environments like startups, and dealing with a different set of customers or colleagues.

Of those surveyed, 41% said they would wait two to six months before looking for another job if they experienced shift shock in a new position. Nearly half (48%) would even try to go back to their previous job.
