The owner of a circa 1840 former blacksmith shop in downtown Geneva is asking a Kane County judge to remove the buildings landmark status and allow its demolition.

The Geneva Historic Preservation Commission next month is expected to decide the fate of a circa 1848 blacksmith shop at the former Mill Race property.

The Geneva City Council Monday approved an intergovernmental agreement with Metra possibly to buy the Union Pacific Railroads downtown commuter parking property for about $960,000.
