Two-wheeler sales were up 13.3 per cent last fiscal at 1,79,74,365 units, as compared to 1,58,62,771 units in the financial year 2022-23.

According to SIAM, total vehicle sales, including all the categories, increased 12.5 per cent to 2,38,53,463 units in the period under review from 2,12,04,846 in 2022-23. 

Despite the overall decline, passenger vehicle shipments saw a 5% increase to 6,77,956 units.

December auto sales: In the calendar year 2023, from January to December, 2,71,43,580 units of vehicles were made overall. Domestic sales in the same period included 41,01,600 units of passenger vehicle.

Sales of passenger vehicles in the month of June rose 2.2 per cent to 3.27 lakh units while two-wheeler sales saw an increase of 1.7 per cent at 13.30 lakh units, as per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data released on Wednesday.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicle sales in April 2023 reached 3,31,278 units, marking the highest ever sales for the month of April

The wholesale passenger vehicle volumes rose to 298,093 units – a record-high for January – from 254,287 units a year ago, said the SIAM data.

Overall domestic sales stood at 20.93 lakh units in September 2022 versus 17.27 lakh in the same period last year.

However, passenger vehicle sales are still below the 2018 level, SIAM noted.
