A Wexford road which has gained notoriety for the number of accidents and fatalities which occur on it will feature on a special edition of RTÉ’s Prime Time this Thursday, April 11. The Duncannon Line (New Line Road) has been dubbed Ireland’s most notorious road in recent years and has been the subject of countless debates in County Hall.

Having won silver in the last year’s Tidy Towns competition, Enniscorthy is perfectly placed to go one better this year. To that end, Wexford County Council (WCC) brought an experienced Tidy Towns adjudicator to Enniscorthy to meet members of the local group and share some insights and advice.

The winds may have died down and the rains may have eased, but Storm Kathleen’s legacy will be felt in south Wexford’s coastal communities for months to come. Confirming his intention to run for election in this summer’s locals, Castlebridge native Dave Ryan said there are large swathes of his district which have suffered since the boundaries were redrawn in 2019.

The never-ending search for parking spaces in Enniscorthy continued apace in the March meeting of the municipal district as suggestions, ideas and aspirations were rebuffed and encouraged accordingly. The first potential site for parking, at least on an interim basis, was the Murphy Flood site. Councillor Cathal Byrne asked executive engineer David Whitty what would happen to the site once the existing structures were demolished.

Heirlooms and historical artefacts from the Irish War of Independence will be exhibited in Wexford County Hall from Monday, April 8 to Friday, May 3 as part of the decade of centenaries initiative. This exhibition commissioned by Wexford County Council Library Service and scripted by Celestine Murphy, historian, traces the progression of the War of Independence and Civil War in Co Wexford.

Haphazard parking and lazy householders have left one Enniscorthy councillor questioning whether “we have lost our way as a society”. Speaking at the March meeting of the Enniscorthy Municipal District, Councillor John O’Rourke said people with disabilities, including those with impaired vision, were suffering due to the actions of others.

With the number of road traffic accidents on the increase across the Wexford Borough District, Sinn Féin candidate Lorraine Smyth has called a meeting for April 7 in Barntown Community Centre during which members of the public will be invited to discuss ways to make our roads safer.
