Thirty students from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Stellenbosch University will form part of the team that will be reconstructing the fire-damaged buildings of Parliament.

The completion date of restoring Parliament's buildings after they were severely damaged by a fire has been pushed back by two months.

Reconstruction work on the parliamentary buildings, gutted by a fire in January 2021, is set to be completed by November 2025.

Parliament’s special projects manager, Simon Mashigo, says the reconstruction will involve academics and students from Stellenbosch University, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology as well as vocational colleges.

More than a year later, members of parliament (MPs) got a chance to see the damage to the National Assembly after it was gutted by a fire.

Construction work at the fire-ravaged Parliamentary buildings will start next week.
