CONSTRUCTION on a scheme to better protect Otley residents from flooding started this week. The scheme, which is part of the response against the climate emergency, will reduce flood risk to 53 properties in the area around Wharfemeadows Park. WORK is to start next month on Otleys flood alleviation scheme. Construction was due to begin shortly after the proposals were approved in March last year but the scheme had been set back by lockdown. Leeds City Council said last year it was hoping to begin engineering work in October 2020 but then the start date was delayed again until 2021.
