Researchers have unveiled a sonar and AI-powered glasses to track upper body movements in 3D. Cornell's Smart Computer Interfaces for Future Interactions (SciFi) lab has unveiled PoseSonic, its latest innovation in sonar-equipped wearables.

Throughout history, sonar’s distinctive “ping” has been used to map oceans, spot enemy submarines and find sunken ships. Today, a variation of that technology – in miniature form, developed by Cornell researchers – is proving a game-changer in wearable body-sensing technology.

Researchers have developed a wearable interface called EchoSpeech, which recognizes silent speech by tracking lip and mouth movements through acoustic-sensing and AI. The device requires minimal user training and recognizes up to 31 unvocalized commands. The system could be used to give voice to those who are unable to vocalize sound or communicate silently with others.
