Event blends shopping and dining with charity | Borneo Bulletin Online

May 3, 2021 Daniel Lim Members of the public were invited to attend the Sungkai Picnic and Raya Bazaar at Brunei Shell Recreation Club in Panaga yesterday. The event featured a variety of food and beverage from local to international delights. The event featured a Thrift Boutique where visitors shopped for Raya outfits. To reduce waste and encourage responsible consumption, visitors left their pre-loved clothing at a drop off point. The Sungkai Picnic and Raya Bazaar showcased social causes such as FoodLife, where visitors dropped off diapers to be donated to medical workers at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital. Non-governmental organisation Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) was present to bring awareness to its Social Kitchen 5,000 Meals Challenge and how visitors can volunteer.

May 2, 2021 Unified National Networks (UNN) joined the Ramadhan Charity Drive 2021 organised by Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) Brunei. The annual charity drive aims to aid families across the nation where necessities or essential items are bought with donations from the public and organisations to improve the lives of socio-economically challenged families especially ahead of Aidilfitri. This year, SCOT celebrated its 10 th anniversary of its Ramadhan Charity Drive by increasing the quota of 100 socio-economically challenged families under the Community Development Department (JAPEM), Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and other SCOT beneficiaries to 150 families, and achieved its target from sponsors and the public, making it the most donations delivered to date.

April 29, 2021 Lyna Mohammad What started out on a small scale in 2019 has now grown bigger with several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and groups collaborating and supporting Ehsan Ramadhan (ER), a project under the initiative of Youth Against Slavery Brunei (YAS Brunei). Established by a youth group spearheaded by Amal Kasibah binti Bahari and Norhayatunajibah binti Haji Kifli, YAS Brunei is an initiative under the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative’s ASEAN Youth Ending Slavery Project to raise awareness in fighting against modern slavery and human trafficking. Amal Kasibah told the Bulletin the project began as an idea to send donations to migrant workers around Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) during Ramadhan in 2019 and was inspired by the generosity of the local community in giving alms at the mosques.

February 1, 2021 Lyna Mohamad Twenty-six youth, who enrolled into the GAIA Youth Series Model, began their six-month mentoring programme following its launch at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital yesterday. The programme has three phases and the first being Camp Wira Challenge pushing the youth’s mental, physical and emotional limits. The second phase involved a Youth Leadership Summit equipping them with skills and tools. The third phase is the mentorship programme to equip the youth with skills to build resilience and self-determination. The first two phases were conducted in partnership with Projek Bina Ukhwah and the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT).
