Petitions come amid growing alarm within the U.S. solar industry that a flood of cheap Chinese green energy technology exports are pushing down prices of solar panels and threatening efforts by the Biden administration to develop a domestic solar supply chain.

The Commerce Department finalized a decision on Friday to impose additional tariffs on solar panel manufacturers from certain Asian countries after determining late last year that they were skirting existing U.S. tariffs on China.

President Biden vetoed a resolution to end the moratorium on solar tariffs imposed on equipment produced in Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

President Joe Biden issued his third veto Tuesday, sending back to Congress a bill that would end the temporary suspension of tariffs on solar panels and components from some Asian countries.

Biden plans to veto a joint resolution rolling back a two-year moratorium on tariffs on solar panels and cells from four Southeast Asian countries.

President Joe Biden will veto actions, which also were criticized by solar facility developers and Congressional supporters of administration climate change policy, who say U.S. photovoltaic component production needs time to boost capacity to meet project demand.

Lawmakers also approved a separate plan to undo federal protections for the lesser prairie chicken, a rare grouse that’s found in parts of the Midwest and Southwest, including one of the country’s most prolific oil and gas fields.

The actions were criticized by solar facility developers and Congressional supporters of the presidents climate change policy, who say U.S. photovoltaic component production needs added time to boost capacity to meet project demand.

This sets up a clash between the Biden administration as the president previously initiated to halt tariffs.
