Senior Delhi Police officer KPS Malhotra on Saturday admitted to incorrectly informing the media that Zubair was sent to 14-day judicial custody after the defence lawyer claimed the court was yet to pronounce the order.
Zubair was simultaneously targeted by thousands of TekFog accounts, hundreds of bot accounts affiliated with a man who has extensive links to the BJP as well as a history of hate speech, all over a single tweet.
Delhi Police sources told India Today that Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair’s bail plea was rejected. His lawyer has alleged that the order was leaked before it was pronounced by court.
Pointing out the gravity of charges against fact-checker Mohammed Zubair, a Delhi court on Saturday sent him to 14-day judicial custody in a case related to a tweet from 2018.
