The RLV LEX test was the second of five tests and part of ISRO's efforts to develop reusable space planes/shuttles.

At 7.10 am, a Chinook Helicopter of the Indian Air Force carried a winged RLV (a  space plane) and flew to a height of 4.5 km to a predetermined spot.

ISRO Chairman said that for the first time in the world, with the help of a helicopter, a rocket-like RLV was left in the sky and returned to the ground successfully.

ISRO has now successfully achieved the autonomous landing of a space vehicle. 

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday successfully conducted the Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing Mission (RLV LEX). The test was conducted at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR), Chitradurga, Karnataka, the national agency headquartered said.
