Federal investigators are now looking into why nearly 48,000 drivers were incorrectly charged on the state Route 125 toll road.

El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells called on SANDAG to conduct an independent investigation into the South Bay Expressway possibly incorrectly charging tens of thousands of motorists.

Drivers in the Chula Vista area are being alerted of a state Route 125 offramp closure expected to last about three weeks.

A stretch of state Route 125 at state Route 94 in the Lemon Grove area will be shut down starting Sunday night, Caltrans officials announced.

SANDAG officials said southbound state Route 125, between state route 54 and East H Street, will be closed starting Friday, June 17, at 8 p.m.; the affected stretch and connectors will be reopened by 6 a.m. on Monday, June 20.
