Campus police officers are working this year with the Starfish Assignment, an organization that fosters connections between law enforcement and the community, on a series of micro-actions to help at-risk children. At the Books and Badges program events, police officers read to elementary school kids and provide every child in the class a copy of the featured book. Another program, Bikes and Badges, delivers free, refurbished bicycles to children who need them.

COLUMBUS Central Ohio law enforcement agencies are teaming up to collect gently used and new bikes to donate to children who need them.

Remember being a kid and all you wanted to do was ride your bike all summer?
Just in time for the season, police across central Ohio are making that possible for hundreds of kids.
In a partnership organized by the Starfish Assignment, the Columbus Division of Police teamed up with Dublin Police, the Ohio State University Police, and officers from John Glenn Columbus International Airport to donate bikes.
The donations from across central Ohio resulted in more than 400 bikes for the Bikes & Badges program.
With spring cleaning in full swing, local police agencies and a nonprofit are accepting donations of used bikes to be refurbished and given to children across Columbus.
For the second year, Starfish Assignment is partnering with law enforcement agencies across central Ohio for the project.
In 2020, bikes were given primarily to children on Columbus West Side. This year, the program is hoping to collect 400 bikes to distribute at recreation centers in Linden, the East Side and the West Side.
Starfish is working with Columbus police, Dublin police, Ohio State University police and officers from John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
Dublin police will be hosting a bicycle donation drive from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Dublin Justice Center, located at 6565 Commerce Parkway. There will be a drive-thru area where donations can be made from vehicles.
