motivating voters. and it is particularly motivating suburban women and young women. i ve been hearing about this issue at chamber of commerce meetings. i ve been hearing at it at the grocery store. i live in the research triangle area and it s a highly educated area, it s an area where people are used to being able to get the health care that they need, and it is also an area where so many of these crucial legislative seats lie. this issue is going to be a big deal for two of our states. senate races and one of our state house races. let s be clear, this is obviously not just in focused issue, and we ve seen several polls that pick the economy inflation at the top of a longest of voting issues with abortion near the bottom. representative, is the messaging from democrats clear
we have u.s. senate races. we have united states congress race and the state house races across the country that are going to be determining our access to autonomy over our bodies. we have an obligation to continue to do this through the midterm elections and elect leaders that will truly represent us. spl speaking of this election, now we re seeing form president, donald trump who has been campaigning for david perdue who is seeking the gubernatorial spot. bryan kemp is getting support from the former vice president, pence. what does this mean for the landscape, particularly for democrat, stacy abrams, who you are helping ing support across state? how might that will influential? while they are in middle of their family feud and tryingouc
race can answer some of the questions about the state of the electorate and forces that will shape the race next year. that begins with donald trump as a motivator for republicans and especially for democrats and how that affects who votes and who does not. how do you think it s going to play out, susan? well, there s some interesting things you have to look at below the top line numbers on the governor s race. and that s the state house races in swing districts where independents and republicans who voted for biden are leaving biden in droves. that is very significant. and that is something that the democrats are concerned about, which is why they re pushing their turnout. the highest turnout of virginia s governor s race has ever had was 48% in 2017. so they know to get to make that win, they need to be above 46% in voter turnout. otherwise, the voters that went for biden are going to leave. they re not just leaving because
but is this what texas has done and the biden administration s response to it, is that going to be enough to keep those that fire burning to bring democrats out to basically upend history and that means keeping the house at a minimum in the democratic majority? i wish i could say i knew, jonathan. i hope so. i think we have to remember that women elected joe biden and women lead the resistance to donald trump running and winning at state house races and congressional races ever since 2017 in virginia. what i m hearing from activists is a lot of anger and a lot of exhaustion. the exhaustion is real because the threats are so constant. so i think it s important that merrick garland stood out there immediately and said that.
