Some people still going fast. Huntersville firefighters on the scene. One person was injured. We dont know how badly. In the last 20 minutes, crews reopened one lane of i40 westbound in Catawba County to let traffic through here. But then closed all lanes after two tractor trailers jackknifed here. But thieves are targeting local firefighters while theyre out on life saving calls. Its just wrong that this is what theyre coming back to. Reporter their car windows smashed, everything from ipads, to money, even guns stolen. And just this morning, firefighters vehicles at two charlotte stations were broken into and ransacked. All this happening when they were out on a call. Thieves have targeted at least five fire stations across the city. You see them here. We have a picture to show you of students there camped out in the library waiting. Waiting this storm out as it blew through. Another picture taken from the schools quad as dark clouds started to roll in and move over the campus. In winston salem, you can see heavy wind pushed down trees and also brought down on power lines there. Duke energy again now reporting more than 10,000 outages in that area. But so far, thankfully, weve nod heard any reports of injuries. Some schools in wake county let the students out early today so they could try to get home safely before the Severe Weather hit. Roads are treacherous right now. Some drivers losing control of their cars while going just 15 to 20 miles per hour. The d. O. T. Here at Catawba County is putting sand and salt down along with some brine on some of the over passes and some of the problem areas where theyve had accidents. We talked with one driver who wrecked this morning about these conditions. This guy we saw a bunch of guys fish tailing. Its ridiculous. People need to slow down. Take it slow. If you dont have to go out today, dont go out. Its not worth it. Reporter i think the hardest thing is for folks, when they step outside, they look and they see grass, they see wet roads, the roads have a lot of black ice.
