The Stena Embla arriving in Belfast on Januray 2nd 2021
Stena Line has moved one of its new ferries from Belfast to Rosslare, Co Wexford, in what it has described as another Brexit-busting move .
When the Stena Embla arrived in Belfast on 2 January the company said it would transport freight between Belfast and Liverpool.
However, the company yesterday tweeted that it would now be sailing the Rosslare to Cherbourg route.
Since the UK officially finished its formal separation from the EU on 31 December, 2020, there has been disruption to trade across the Irish Sea border.

Revenue has confirmed that its new Customs Roll on-Roll off Service is operational, as administrative procedures for freight kick in following the end of the Brexit transition period.
The service enables transport companies to get a Pre-Boarding Notification (PBN) before the goods they are moving start their journey.
A PBN is needed before a lorry can get onto a ferry to cross the Irish Sea, as the UK is now considered a third country for trade purposes.

Ireland’s foreign minister, Simon Coveney, said the change in trading arrangements with the UK will inevitably cause disruption.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “We’re now going to see the 80 billion euro (£71.2 billion) worth of trade across the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland disrupted by an awful lot more checks and declarations, and bureaucracy and paperwork, and cost and delay.”
Ferry operator Stena Line said six freight loads destined for Ireland had been turned away at Holyhead due to incorrect paperwork.

In 2021, the Irish Port of Rosslare will offer 2 daily services between Ireland and France for 6 days a week, as well as 2 weekly sailings to and from Bilbao.
DFDS will sail between Rosslare and Dunkirk, while Stena Line will offer a Rosslare-Cherbourg service. The ferries between Rosslare and Bilbao will be operated by Brittany Ferries.
Demand for the new services is high as Irish hauliers are keen to avoid potential disruption on the UK landbridge route. Stena Line has confirmed that the first sailing to Cherbourg after the UK’s departure from the EU Single Market is sold out.
