The Waco Symphony Association has taken a step toward its future, picking New York conductor Lawrence Loh as the symphony’s new music director.

With 2023 gone, January finds many Waco arts groups and venues looking to spring with national and regional musicians, drama and musicals, anniversaries and, yes, tie-ins with April 8s eclipse.

Lawrence Loh will lead the Waco Symphony tonight in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, a four-movement work rich in depth and layers, paired with works by Angélica Negrón and Aaron Copland.

With 2 guest artists, guest conductors and a space-themed concert near the total solar eclipse next April, the Waco Symphony could be justified in calling its season a star-studded one.
