The Oklahoma state Senate passed a bill in March that critics say is a chilling attack that could land Oklahomans behind bars for protected free speech.

The proposed Oklahoma legislation known as Lauria and Ashley's Law will not become law this year.

A state senator said Thursday that House Bill 2946, known as Lauria and Ashleys Law, would take the state backward on criminal justice reform.

Thursday marked the deadline for policy bills to be sent to the governor at the Oklahoma State Capitol, leading to a rush to pass bills out of the opposite chamber before midnight.

A family fighting to change the law after the murder of their daughter and her friend just found out at the last minute on Wednesday that the bill wont be heard by the Oklahoma Senate tomorrow, which will likely kill the bill this session.
