In August, for the first time in 68 years, Betty Replogle will not be going back to school.

Kevin Saunders told his story to grade students at Stoddard Elementary. His grandson, Vaughn, is a fourth grader at the school. Saunders is a Paralympian, author, and motivational speaker.

Many who came to the meeting were there to support Stoddard Elementary Principal Derek Fuglsang.

Stoddard Elementary School was in lockdown for about 15 minutes, police said.

A parent reported a possible weapon being brought to school, but no weapon was ever found after Beatrice police responded to the situation.

The community is not at risk, according to a Facebook post from the Vernon County Sheriff's Office.
