Columbus Municipal School District trustees unanimously passed a resolution during a special-call meeting Tuesday to hold a special election for a bond that would fund $36 million in facility improvements.

The 2022-23 accountability ratings from the Mississippi Department of Education show Columbus Municipal, Lowndes County and Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated districts all maintained their ratings from the prior year.

Columbus Municipal School district had been at a D rating since 2016 but this year they went up to C.

Columbus Municipal and Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated school districts both moved up a letter grade in the Mississippi Department of Education’s Accountability Ratings, while Lowndes County remains the region’s only A public school district.

Results in the Golden Triangle were mixed on the state third-grade reading assessment for the 2021-22 school year, according to data the Mississippi Department of Education released Thursday.
