Stuart can well afford to pay couriers more

A new report on Stuart Delivery, the logistics company at the heart of the current wave of couriersโ€™ strikes, finds that: โ€œStuart Delivery is ultimately owned by the French state. It is a subsidiary of DPD delivery, which is itself a subsidiary of La Poste, the French state-owned postal service. โ€œLa Poste says it guarantees labour rights and trade union representation for its employees โ€” but leaves out Stuart couriers who are treated as precarious sub-contractors.โ€

On Sunday 30 January, a strike by couriers working for Just Eat and Stuart Delivery was on its 36th day. Drivers in Sheffield and other cities are organising daily pickets and protests to fight off the 24% cut in their base rate of pay that Stuart implemented late in 2021, while their own revenues doubled and their top executive enjoyed a 1,000% pay increase, taking his remuneration to ยฃ2,000,000.
