By Emily Burnham Bangor Daily News Staff Maine’s state fossil is Pertica quadrifaria, a plant that lived nearly 400 million years ago during the Devonian period, fossilized remains of which were discovered in 1968 in Baxter State Park. By Zara Norman, Bangor Daily News Staff When the Moonspring Hermitage was added to the National Register of Historic Places, it represented a milestone for a list largely populated with much older homes. The Zen Buddhist retreat, a building tied to the back-to-the-land movement of the 1970s, is the most modern one in Maine to be added to the federal list of sites and structures deemed worthy of preservation.

GREENVILLE — Late last fall a key step was taken toward the creation of a proposed multigenerational housing district on 5 acres on Spruce Street off Pritham Avenue. Via a special town meeting vote, residents approved an article asking if the town of Greenville would accept a land use ordinance amendment to help pave the way for the housing district.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — As a way to supplement an increased emergency call volume and staffing challenges currently being experienced by Northern Light Mayo Emergency Medical Services, the town of Dover-Foxcroft is proposing the creation of a municipal EMS department to supplement that of the hospital. GREENVILLE — The town of Greenville will continue to symbolically change its name to a different color to mark Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month in June.
