MONSON โ A musket and accompanying bayonet that had belonged to a Monson area veteran of the Civil War and had been a family heirloom for the last few decades, will now be a part of the Monson Historical Society. Fifth- through seventh-generation descendants of Harrison Davis formally presented the musket to the historical society on July 15 at the Moore Building as part of Monson Summerfest.

GREENVILLE โ A grant application for $125,000 to cover a portion of the HVAC system at the new Greenville Public Safety Building, which is currently under construction, was formally signed by the select board during a July 5 meeting, two days ahead of the deadline. Town Manager Mike Roy said residents John and Margarita Contreni have been working on the grant through Efficiency Maine.

The towns of Sebec, Dexter, Greenville, and Rockwood will each be celebrating Independence Day with events on and leading up to Tuesday July 4. The Fourth of July events in Sebec Village begin with fireworks at dusk on Monday, July 3 with food available starting at 6 p.

DOVER-FOXCROFT โ Maineโs beloved Whoopie Pie Festival, which draws thousands to downtown Dover-Foxcroft each summer, will return Saturday, June 24. More than 7,000 people attended last yearโs festival, and 2019 was the best attended with nearly 8,000 people, said Patrick Myers, executive director of the Center Theatre, which organizes the event with the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce.

DOVER-FOXCROFT โ For two centuries now, Foxcroft Academy has served as the secondary educational institution for the local community, being founded only a few years after Maine became the nationโs 23rd state.
