The Mosquito Fire has grown to become California’s largest wildfire of 2022.

Fire crews made great progress on Saturday and overnight and were able to get a containment line around 34% of the Mosquito Fire. The fire has now burned 74,748 acres. Colder temperatures, good humidity recovery, and precipitation arrived overnight with the forecasted storm system.

The containment for the Mosquito Fire burning in Placer and El Dorado counties continues to hold steady despite challenging fire conditions earlier in the week.

The Mosquito Fire has been raging in Northern California for more than a week now. The Mosquito Fire engulfed a total land area of approximately 64,000 acres as of Thursday, September 15, becoming California's largest wildfire in 2022 so far.

The Mosquito Fire has burned 69,908 acres and remains at 20% containment. Poor air quality is an issue Friday around Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Reno, and Carson City. Farmers Market on Ski Run has been canceled, and schools in the Tahoe-Truckee School District are closed due to very unhealthy air.
