Designed for close air support, the Su-25 has struggled against advanced air defenses, notably in Afghanistan and recently in Ukraine, where significant losses have reduced its fleet.

Su-25 attack aircraft play crucial role in special military operation, providing aerial support to Russian troops.

Over its decades in service, the Su-25 Frogfoot has undergone several overhauls to retain an edge over competitor airframes. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many former eastern blocs gained Su-25 regiments, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and others.

Though the Su-25 Frogfoot/Grach is a respectable warbird, most military experts and warfighters would rather be flying the A-10 Warthog if given a choice. 

Both the Su-25 and A-10 are heavily armored and are often referred to as “flying tanks.” However, the Frogfoot is smaller, lighter and faster than its American counterpart. Earlier variants of the Russian jet featured two R-95Sh non-afterburning turbojets.

Since the start of its special military operation, Russia quickly achieved air superiority due to supreme technical capabilities of its aviation and outstanding skills of Russian pilots.
