After the selection committee headed by the Prime Minister on Monday shortlisted three names for the post of CBI director, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Tuesday announced on Tuesday the appointment of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, IPS, for the post. Besides Jaiswal, SSB Director-General Kumar Rajesh Chandra, Special Secretary in the Home Ministry V S K Kaumudi, were also contending for the top chief post.
A Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led three-member selection committee had on Monday shortlisted his name for the post.

NEW DELHI: CISF chief Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was on Tuesday appointed as the new CBI director for two years, according to a Personnel Ministry order.
Jaiswal is a 1985-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Maharashtra cadre.
He has also served as Maharashtra s director general of police in the past.
The Central Bureau of Investigation was working without a regular chief for over three months after Rishi Kumar Shukla completed his two-year tenure on February 3.
CISF DG Subodh Kr Jaiswal appointed next CBI Director
New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) CISF DG Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has been appointed the next Director of Central Investigation Agency(CBI) for a two-year period.
A 1985 batch of Maharashtra cadre IPS officer, Mr Jaiswal was also Director General of Police(DGP) of Maharashtra before he was appointed CISF DG.
According to the notification of the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, Mr Jaiswal is appointed for two years from the date of his assumption of the charge of the office or until further order whichever is earlier.
