Sumas Elementary School News Today

Some students still haven't been able to return to their homes.

Tuesday was an emotional day for students and staff of Upper Sumas Elementary School, which finally reopened following the unprecedented floods that hit Abbotsford, B.C., late last year.

Lindsay Lockhart and her family wont be home for Christmas. But when her flooded farmhouse is finally restored, shes vowing to haul out the decorations — whether its January or July.

The school was hit hard by the November floods and Nooksack Valley Schools Superintendent Matt Galley says it's beyond repair.

Schools were scheduled to reopen Monday, but the threat of even more flooding kept them closed.

At least 160 students have been displaced by the floods and will be attending other elementary schools as construction on a new building continues.
