Districts still waiting for state DOH guidance for fall school reopening

Districts still waiting for state DOH guidance for fall school reopening | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS School districts across the state are still waiting for state health guidelines that will shape key decisions in reopening schools in the fall, and some leaders are saying they can’t wait much longer. Districts are looking for direction from the state on a handful of issues crucial to their ability to return all students to daily in-person instruction in the fall: masking requirements, social-distancing rules, whether a remote option will be necessary and the extent that districts can ask about vaccine status.   In recent comments, some school leaders have suggested they can only wait so much longer and may have to move forward with making decisions about what the fall will look like in their districts.

Niskayuna school board weighs superintendent search options

Niskayuna school board weighs superintendent search options | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 GAZETTE COVERAGE The board on a split 3-3 vote rejected a motion to solicit proposals from private search firms, which would have been considered alongside using BOCES for the search. After rejecting the motion to solicit private proposals, the board unanimously agreed to appoint BOCES to lead the search process. During a presentation prior to the votes, Capital Region BOCES District Superintendent Anita Murphy, who in her role also manages superintendent searches for districts in the region, outlined the board’s primary options for conducting a search. Superintendent searches generally fall into one of two categories: a closed or confidential search, where only school board members interview candidates; and a traditional or open search, where groups of community members, teachers and others interview candidates and offer input to the board.

Schenectady school board still searching for interim superintendent and other top positions

Schenectady school board still searching for interim superintendent and other top positions | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS The Schenectady school board on Wednesday night met in closed session for the fifth time in less than a month to screen candidates for the interim superintendent position, but officials on Thursday could not offer an expected timeline for filling the role. Finding an interim superintendent as a bridge to initiating a new search for a permanent superintendent, though, is just the start of a long hiring to-do list facing the Schenectady school board. The board also has to hire a deputy superintendent and district directors of human resources, business and finance, and planning and accountability. The three director positions are based in the district’s central office, report directly to the superintendent and oversee departments that manage vast portions of district operations.
