A detailed look at the destruction of Russias advanced T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks shows that FPVs are responsible for a surprisingly high proportion of kills.

Outgunned, but not outmatched.

Russia’s T-90 main battle tank (MBT) began life as a Soviet program. While most modern militaries had embraced the concept of a main battle tank and focused their production and deployment on a single variant, the Soviet army had ordered T-64s, T-72s, and T-80s.

The T-90M took a direct hit from a man-portable anti-tank weapon, and its turret was blown off — the result of the so-called jack-in-the-box effect caused by ammunition stored beneath the turret.

A video shows a Russian tank crew abandoning their vehicle in action although it does appear undamaged. But bailing out may have been the smartest thing they could do.

The crews practice in the rear area of the special operational zone’s central military district.

As defense expert Michael Peck pointed out, the T-90M “seems impressive, but Russian tanks always look good until they are actually used in combat.”
