JOHANNESBURG – The Mangaung Municipality has said the suspension of its city manager Tankiso Mea has now paved the way for allegations of maladministration against him to be investigated.
The council voted for Mea to be placed on precautionary suspension following service delivery protests in the Free State metro turned violent this week.

JOHANNESBURG – The Mangaung municipality has confirmed its city manager Tankiso Mea has been suspended.
It’s understood councillors voted on Friday for Mea to be placed on precautionary suspension after the Free State metro was rocked by violent service-delivery protests, with residents demanding Mea s removal.

A Free State MEC has vowed to drag the embattled Mangaung metro municipal manager to court next week and force him to take leave while his alleged maladministration is being investigated.
Co-operative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta) MEC Thembeni Nxangisa has promised to force Tankiso Mea to go on leave and allow the investigation into his alleged misconduct to go smoothly.

A child was allegedly shot and killed by a shop owner in Bloemfontein during the Mangaung Shutdown protest on Monday, 17 May. Police confirmed that seven people were arrested for public violence earlier on Monday.
The protest is organised under the banner of the ‘Mangaung Community Concern’ and is led by Themba Zweni. Residents are calling for the Metro Council to be disbanded and Tankiso Mea, the city manager, to be removed from office.
