Trial scheduled for Berthoud resident arrested in insurance, tax fraud case

Robert Tarin Jr. is accused of fraudulently obtaining $31,577 in unemployment benefits by providing false information to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment from July 2020 through May 2021, according to a previous release form the Attorney General’s Office. He allegedly reported on his unemployment insurance application that he temporarily shut down his towing business because of the pandemic, but the release alleged that he failed to disclose on his application that he also owned a fencing company that records show did not close or suffer a slowdown in 2020.

Two members of Northern Colorado family charged in insurance and tax fraud case plead guilty, one has case dismissed

Both Tarin-Deleon and and Ana tarin pleaded guilty to an additional count of criminal mischief costing between $20,000 and $100,000, a class 4 felony. Both were given a four-year deferred sentence and ordered to pay large restitution fees of more than $14,000 each; a deferred sentence serves as a guilty plea but, at the end of the term, if the defendant follows a set of conditions, their guilty plea is withdrawn. Arp also approved the dismissal of Luz Tarin's case, though no information was given during the hearing on why the case was dismissed.
