Tates Creek Middle School students and staff were evacuated Thursday morning and relocated to Tates Creek High School due to an "unknown odor" which officials now say they believe was pepper spray.
UPDATE: Fayette County Public Schools say the lockdown and heightened alerts have been lifted. The school system says no students or staff have been injured.
One Tates Creek school is on lockdown while two more are on "heightened alert" due to an incident nearby, according to the Fayette County Public Schools spokeswoman.
“We own this data and we are accepting responsibility for changing it. . Shaking up these results requires truly new approaches as we blaze a new way forward for the Fayette County Public Schools,” said Superintendent Demetrus Liggins.
