Congress should be vigilant in scrutinizing the U.N. budget to guard against impropriety and waste.

Disparities in U.N. funding allows dozens of countries to pay very little, giving them little incentive to scrutinize the U.N. budget.

The U.S. should insist that surplus appropriations and credits owed to the U.S. by the U.N. be returned or applied to its regular or peacekeeping assessments. Congress should prohibit the Administration from allowing the U.N. to use the credits for other purposes without congressional approval.

Congress should not take the Administration’s $100 million gift to the U.N. lightly.
