it and it can push the oil up on beaches further than planned. pluses and minuses to the storm. jon: there have been a lot of those since this spill began more than three months ago. allen acknowledged how difficult the whole experience has been. this has been extremely frustrating time for the entire country, especially the people of the gulf coast. i share their frustration. i don t think anybody should be happy when oil is on the water. that said, we have gone almost a week now with a cap on the well and the oil being released. we have upgraded our skimming capability by the end of july we will have over 1,000 skimmers available. we are gaining momentum. i think we are hitting our stride in this response. we shouldn t take anything for granted until we finish that relief well and there is no chance that any oil can enter the environment. it s going to be a while before things reach that stages specially with workers pulling up a mile of pipe from the gulf floor so they can g
path towards the disaster zone. crews there are preparing for what may be an evacuation, possibly this evening. but the good news tonight is we likely will not be seeing scenes like this unfold over the next few days. the retired ghost guard admiral thad allen originally suggested that crews may have to reopen the cap, which has halted the gush in the oil. but tonight he says that will not be necessary. for the rest of the news from the oil spill we have team fox coverage. rick reichmuth tracking that storm. let s begin though with steve harrigan in new orleans tonight. steve, crews at this hour waiting to find out if they have to evacuate. any word? that s right, shep. those ships around the well we should learn in the next hour whether they will be pulled out to safer waters. such a move could mean a delay up to two weeks in attacking the well. also the risk of leaving that temporary cap unmonitored. also, the first ship that would have to leave would be the most important ship. th
demanding answers: i m jon scott in for shepard smith on day 88 of our national disaster in the gulf of mexico. tonight, bp reports its new containment cap is holding and there is still no oil gushing into the gulf. we are about halfway through the 4 -hour testing period. the feds say the pressure readings are not quite as high as they would like. in this case high pressure is a good thing. but they are close enough to continue the testing for at least another few hours. after that engineers could decide to call the whole thing off and uncap the well before it possibly causes an even bigger disaster. we have team fox coverage. major garrett live at the white house. first, to the fox report s chief correspondent jonathan hunt live in port sulfur, louisiana. jonathan, what s the fear here? well, jon, the fear among the feds is that if the pressure of the oil is not reaching the levels that they thing they should be seeing, it might mean that the oil is leaking
man in louisiana summing up the frustration that the entire region most likely is feeling right now, claiming bp s calling bp s claim of capping the well a bleeping lie. team fox coverage continues from the gulf coast coming up inside fox report. but, first, a major test now for the arizona immigration law that is scheduled to take effect just two weeks from today. hours ago as protesters screamed at each other outside a courthouse, a federal judge heard arguments about whether to block this measure. it s all because the law will require police officers to question people about their immigration status if they suspect those people, who have been stopped for other reasons, are in the country illegally. one of those police officers is suing because he says that will force him to use racial profiling. lawyers for the government or the governor, i should say, jan brewer say the officer can t prove he will actually be harmed and they re asking the judge to toss the suit. no ruling yet. bu
