The "mashaal" or flaming torch election symbol will remain with Uddhav Thackeray for now, the Supreme Court said today,

The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the suggestion of the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena to decide the disqualification proceedings pending against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and MLAs belonging to his camp.

Team Eknath Shinde will hold its first key meeting today four days after the Election Commission gave it the Shiv Sena name and the bow-and-arrow party symbol.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is working to keep the morale high of party workers loyal to him by focussing on more activity at "Shiv Sainik" camps.

Coming up with a divine intervention theory for a political development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said the Uddhav Thackeray faction lost Shiv Sena's name and symbol because of "politics over Lord Shiva".

"At the time of the establishment of the government, PM Modi and Amit Shah said that we are with you. I remember the words of Amit bhai, who said, Shindeji, you move ahead, we are behind you like a rock," said Eknath Shinde.

Team Eknath Shinde can keep the name "Shiv Sena" and the "bow and arrow" symbol, the Election Commission said today. The rival Uddhav Thackeray faction can keep the name "Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray" and the "flaming torch" symbol.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray launched a strong attack on his rival Eknath Shinde, calling him a "traitor who won't change", after the Election Commission today allowed Team Shinde to keep the Shiv Sena name and the party symbol.
