PASTRANA, Leyte: Mayor Marites Cayaco-Marcos said she expects a thorough and fair investigation by the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas of the July 15, 2023 incident involving three media persons and two police officers in her town.

Three San Juanico TV reporters were harassed by two off-duty police officers and allegedly shot at by an unknown party while covering a land dispute involving the officers in Leyte, Visayas, on July 14. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) joins its affiliate, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), in condemning the harassment and attempted attack by the journalists and urging the authorities to continue its investigation transparently.

A couple police officials were relieved from their posts for allegedly harassing and firing shots against reporters in Leyte.

POLICE fired at three television reporters who were doing an interview at a village in Pastrana, Leyte on Friday, according to the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), which posted a video of the incident on Saturday.
