Celebrity bodyguard, Anwar Khan was granted bail of R200 000 in the Dimbaza Magistrate's Court, in the Eastern Cape on Friday.

Former NPA risk specialist Terrence Joubert was denied bail altogether as the court believed he might interfere with investigations.

The Alice magistrate’s court, sitting in Dimbaza, on Friday denied bail for Terrence Joubert in the R172m University of Fort Hare (UFH) fraud and corruption case.

Fourteen other individuals were arrested for suspected fraud and corruption at the University of Fort Hare alongside Anwar 'Dogg' Khan.

The state is opposing the release on bail of late rapper Kiernan AKA Forbes’ bodyguard, Anwar Khan, and another businessman in the case involving alleged fraud at the University of Fort Hare. Senior prosecutor advocate Mduduzi Mzila said that reasons for refusing to release Khan and civil servant turned businessman Terrence Joubert would be provided on Friday when their bail application was heard in the Dimbaza magistrate’s court.

The 10 accused were released on R50 000 bail, had to surrender their passports and must report to their nearest police station every Wednesday.

The suspects appeared at the Alice Magistrates Court sitting in Dimbiza earlier on Thursday with two others remanded in custody until the next court appearance.

The 15 accused, arrested for running an alleged criminal enterprise aiming to defraud the University of Fort Hare, appeared in court last week.

The work of an alleged syndicate at the University of Fort Hare is unmasked as the State’s case becomes clearer.

Accused persons will now make a formal bail application in the same court on 11 and 12 April 2024
