The Wayne County Commission is encouraging Michigan lawmakers to enact idling laws, while Detroit struggles to enforce its own.

With a new year comes new appointments to Wayne County Commission’s standing and special committees.

County commissioners and attendees also heard from experts that represented a cross-section of the electric vehicle industry, including those from DTE Energy, General Motors and ChargePoint, which operates the largest online network of independently owned EV charging stations. 

Commissioner Sam Baydoun (D-Dearborn), whose district also includes the Ford Dearborn Truck Plant, recently brought food to striking workers on the commission’s behalf.

Commissioners Jonathan C. Kinloch (D-Detroit), Monique Baker McCormick (D-Detroit) and Melissa Daub (D-Canton) joined Wayne County Commission Chair Alisha Bell (D-Detroit) to meet with officials from across the nation to work on key policy issues. 

For Plymouth Township, news of road funding from the state could potentially put a 150,000-square-foot Meijer proposal back on the table.

Sections of Beck Road and North Territorial Road are on Wayne Countys to-do list for 2023.

Some resurfacing work will take place around Eight Mile and Haggerty this summer, with plans to do more toward Meadowbrook in the future.

Wayne County voters appeared set to give Warren Evans another term as county executive and Raphael Washington led in his bid for sheriff.
