Blink and you might pass up the beautiful shores of Oak Street Beach. Among the 26 unique shorelines in Laguna Beach, Oak Street is home to not only a marine protected area but also a host of locals like the Booth family, who call many of these unique shorelines home. For Tess Booth, 20, growing up splashing in the shore break and conquering some of Laguna Beach’s premier surf spots ignites a forever passion for the ocean.   

 This past Saturday, Laguna Beach’s newly revamped South Coast Theater, which also serves as electric car maker Rivian’s largest flagship location in Southern California, saw a full house of the beachiest of surf fans for the premiere of “Girls Can’t Surf,” a fluorescent look into the real-life stories of some of surfing’s top female talent fighting through primarily male dominant surf culture during the 1980s.  

Laguna Beach Local News The 56th annual Brooks Street Surfing Classic will open its waiting period on Aug. 6. Brooks Street was first held in 1955 and could be argued as being one of the world’s longest-running surf contests. “Its been a great south swell season so far and hopefully it continues long and strong from this point on so we can get the contest back in the water after a two-year hiatus,” contest director Brandy Faber wrote in an email.
