Since the establishment of ETF Connect scheme in July 2022, the connection of Mainland China and Hong Kong capital markets was further strengthened. Central banks and regulators in China and Hong Kong will work on launching Swap Connect, which will allow foreign investors to hedge the market risks of the 3.7 trillion yuan (US$553 billion) in onshore yuan bonds held by them.

Regulators and officials from Hong Kong and the mainland take part in live-streamed ceremonies at exchanges in the city, Shanghai and Shenzhen to mark the ETF Connect’s debut.

The new scheme, which makes Singapore the third major market with a cross-border trading scheme with mainland stock exchanges, comes as the Lion City and China mark more than three decades of diplomatic ties.
