Around 40 godowns of wooden furniture were burnt down in a major fire that broke out in a wholesale market selling these items at Bhiwandi in Maharashtra's Thane district, a civic official said today.

A fire broke out in an electricity meter box room of a housing complex in Maharashtra s Thane city in the wee hours of Tuesday, a civic official said. At least 32 electric meters were completely destroyed in the blaze, he said, adding that no person was injured.

The premises was destroyed in the blaze, he said, adding that three fire engines were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused by around 2.30am.
