Chief Justice Francis Korkpor
The importance of an independent judiciary cannot be overemphasized. Everyone loses when justice is corrupted, in particular the poor, who are forced to pay bribes that they cannot afford.
Against this backdrop, Chief Justice Francis Korkpor on Monday, May 9 openly admitted that Liberian Judges are corrupt without mentioning the name of any individual judge. The Chief Justiceâs admittance to corrupt Judiciary comes after some international reports had cast dark cloud over the independence and transparency of the third branch of government earlier.
In his special statement at the opening of the May 2021 Term of Criminal Courts, A,B,C,D and E at the Temple of Justice, Chief Justice Korkpor said he has noticed that Judges are involved in bribery and cautioned them to desist from the practice because it is tarnishing the image of the Judicial Branch of the Government.
