Wednesday marked the grand opening of the first phase of a new $80 million middle-class housing development in north Minneapolis.

Chase Bank ended plans to put branch in Satori Boutique apartments on W. Broadway, a project led by former Vikings player Tim Baylor.

The renovation and expansion of 927 W. Broadway by Tri-Construction and partners also involves Black ownership

With the Attorney General investigating, public officials say there is reason to be optimistic about the future of this West Broadway intersection. But community members are skeptical.

Call the project a first of its kind in the north Minneapolis community in more than a decade.

The project is one of the largest ever outside downtown and led by veteran businessman Tim Baylor, Catalyst Opportunity Funds, private investors and local government.

A developer will break ground next month on a $68 million retail and housing complex in north Minneapolis — the biggest project the area has seen in years.

The community development corporation will receive a $700,000 city loan to buy the crime-plagued property on West Broadway.
