The Livermore Police Department in California warned residents that tech-savvy thieves are searching for active Bluetooth devices that are left in cars as a rising "crime trend."

There is a general sense that crime is increasing in the Bay Area, but there is one area where it is reaching epidemic proportions: car burglaries.

The Livermore Police Department recently added a simulator to help train its entire force. It's designed to teach officers de-escalation. Police officials say it's unusual for a smaller department such as theirs to have this tool, but they hope it will save lives.

For more than two years, Amanda and Corey Harrington have sought an answer for what happened to their now 8-year-old son. Police and social workers investigated.
