The Aiken City Council could take the final step accepting funds for the construction of a mixed-use building downtown Monday evening. On the agenda for the 7 p.m. city council meeting is the second and final reading of an ordinance allowing the city to accept $20 million from the states plutonium settlement with the federal government.

Aikens budget could soon grow by $20 million as the city moves toward constructing a mixed-use building downtown. The Aiken City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to approve the first reading of an ordinance adding $20 million to the citys budget for the building that could be constructed in the 100 block of Newberry Street.
