As the city prepares to tighten its belt in the face of a projected multi-million dollar general fund shortfall, the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority is weighing its options

Loveland City Council approved a request from Loveland Fire Rescue Authority for a $1.3 million contribution toward the purchase of a new engine and new truck.

At last week’s City Council special meeting, Loveland Fire Rescue Authority board chair Jeff Swanty used three minutes of public comment to relay what he termed a “big ask” on behalf of the department.  At this week’s meeting, City Council will deliver its answer.

For the most part, Loveland voters chose lower taxes, with one exception.

Members of the organization, which dates back to 1983 as the Thompson Valley Ambulance Service before becoming TVEMS in 1998, gathered at the Embassy Suites in east Loveland Saturday night to celebrate the history of the department and look forward into the future.

Results for the 2023 Larimer County Coordinated Election release at 1:21 p.m. Wednesday afternoon showed that both measures, which would have gone to provide more funding for the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority, held at nearly the same percentages as Tuesday night; 2F saw 51.8% of the voters against the measure while 6B saw 51% yes votes, according to the Wednesday release. 

As of the first drop of results for the 2023 Larimer County Coordinated Election, both ballot issues saw tight races,  with 51% of voters against 2F, while issue 6B saw 51% approval.

The the proposed measure would increase the sales tax in the city by 0.37% to a total of 7.07%, according to previously published information. It would also include an increase to the rural-district mill levy in the Loveland Rural Fire Protection District from 8.708 mills to 11.186 mills, meaning an estimated $83.01 per year for a $500,000 home in the rural district.
