from the flynn indictment and from the gates inindictments it seems much more serious. i think this is where the buck has to stop up on the hill. always good to have you on the program. thanks to you, much appreciated. there is a new piece out that gives readers an inside look at the man who plays number two to donald trump. the article tackles mike pence s faith, his career and how he has been able to thread the needle between the two in serving as vice president to donald trump. here is part of what the article says quote pence is sending a message to those with ears to hear that he recognizes the absurdity of his situation and knows what sort of man he is working for. while things may look bad now there is a grand purpose at work here, a plan that will manifest itself in due time. let not your hearts be troubled he seems to be saying. i got this. staff writer for the atlantic as
remember this is a really chaotic 48 hours. republicans were calling on trump to drop out. i report in the piece that small group of billionaires was putting together money to try to one term i heard conduct a buy out of donald trump basically give him money to walk away from the race. that never came to fruition obviously. in the midst of all of this pence really did he made clear that he was open to it, that he was ready to take the place at the top of the ticket. and i m actually told and i report this in the piece that during a meeting with trump and his top advisers in the midst of this upheaval reince priebus said that pence and condoleeza rice were ready to step in as the new gop ticket. i health departme i should say this is something that reince priebus now denies. this is according to somebody
somebody who is the president s personal lawyer also working on some of this. what is interesting is the crossover. one question we have been trying to nail down with anybody is when the president, when exactly without a shadow of the doubt did the president know that michael flynn lied to the fbi. the white house refers our questions to outside question. and to the other part of this that i asked about which is the scramble that appears to be going on to figure out what is their legal strategy, how is it possible eight months later that there isn t a clear plan here? it s not as though no one thought it was possible that flynn was a target here. i think donald trump would be a tough client for any lawyer in any context before he was president and since. i think there are many difficult legal questions. the strategy that this team has
they know that he will be a drag on the republican brand. so far already they are branded with this guy with now the rnc taking a despicable turn and deciding now to put their money behind him simply for a near term political win in their minds. it s this kind of crave in politics that turns people off. the long term damage to the republican brand and to the republican party is enormous here. republicans in washington know that. i think most republicans across the country recognize that putting aside someone s moral character is problematic. what kind of people do we want? unfortunately, a lot of people did that with donald trump. this is a repeat like ground hog s day of what happened last year. i should point out there is a woman filing a sexual assault lawsuit against president trump in new york at this hour. we heard for the first time from
dictated it to an aid who sent it, it still came from president donald trump s account. that is where all of this sort of originated. you have jon dowd and others talking about this saying any president cannot actually obstruct justice because we don t expect to be mounting that kind of defense for the president implying it was a bit convoluted and making clear that they believe the president has done nothing wrong. the question is what is the president going to do about it now. i will tell you this raised speculation about whether or not the president will consider changes to his legal team. you have somebody inside the white house handling this,
