DepEd records 738K enrollees in Ilocos Region

PNA file photo MALASIQUI, Pangasinan - The Department of Education (DepEd) Policy, Planning, and Research Division has recorded 738,212 enrollees in the Ilocos Region as of August 3. Based on the data obtained by the Philippine News Agency on Friday, at least 43,205 are enrolled in kindergarten, 317,268 in elementary, 251,694 in junior high, and 126,045 in senior high school. In an interview, DepEd Ilocos Region Public Affairs Unit head Cesar Bucsit said the number is expected to increase as enrollment is still ongoing. Despite the 7.0 magnitude earthquake's damage to some schools, he said majority of the classrooms in the region are not affected but the DepEd is still monitoring and checking the structural stability of Ilocos Region's almost 3,000 schools. Learning delivery modes for schoolless Ilocos villages pushed

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union - The Department of Education Ilocos regional office (DepEd-1) has recommended the adoption of alternative delivery modes of learning and establishing new schools to address the concerns on schoolless barangays. In a statement issued on Wednesday, DepEd-1 said the alternative delivery modes include the strengthening of collaboration with the community officials, non-government organizations, and other stakeholders. DepEd-1's study, done via the Policy, Planning, and Research Division (PPRD), showed that out of 3,267 barangays in the four provinces, 989 barangays or 30.3 percent are without elementary school. "Consequently, the research also determined the status of the learners from schoolless barangays in terms of access, efficiency, and quality of education during the pre-pandemic school year 2019-2020," it said.
